Editor's Verdict: Unforgettable Languages Italian is a vocabulary learning program with a difference. Not only does it effectively teach users plenty of useful vocab, it also includes grammatical explanations and exercises to give you an understanding of sentence structure. Despite not being marketed as a comprehensive language learning solution, Unforgettable Languages Italian does branch out from being simply a vocab builder, exposing users to native speaker pronunciations, sentence structure and verb conjugations which allows budding Italian learners to put together their vocab into sentences in order to communicate in Italian. Divided into 10 lesson selections, Unforgettable Languages Italian comes with a helpful glossary which facilitates ease of navigation. We found it easy to get started and continue using Unforgettable Languages Italian due to the simplicity of the program and user friendly instructions. Furthermore, in the case of any problems that may arise during use of Unforgettable Languages, there is a customer services number you can call within office hours or if you leave a message they will get back to you when possible. Flashcards are a tried and tested way of learning vocabulary and can even be considered an industry standard for these ends. Unforgettable Languages, however, add a welcome twist, bringing flashcard vocab learning into the 21st century. Words will appear in both Italian and English after which users are exposed to native speaker pronunciation; vital for learning a word base that can be effectively used in verbal communication. Upon learning a set of words along with their correct pronunciation users complete a vocab list which they are then quizzed on by entering the English translation of each Italian word. Although the program is quite limited in teaching general Italian communication skills, users are exposed to basic explanations of Italian grammar which makes a nice addition to the basic flashcard format. It must be noted that Unforgettable Languages Italian does lack many of the tools used by other programs in this category which constitute a comprehensive Italian Course such as speech recognition technology and online communities. For confidence in expressing oneself in Italian, a variety of activities must engage the learner; this not only to keeps the experience fresh but also stimulates different areas of the brain which optimizes the learning process. However, it must be kept in mind that Unforgettable Languages costs at least half that of the average product in this category. It does not claim to be a complete solution and, furthermore, focusing on vocabulary is arguably the most efficient way in which you can improve your basic Italian comprehension skills, especially when native speaker audio is included. The flashcard system upon which Unforgettable Languages is based does exactly what it says on the tin. This product would be great for those looking to pick up some key words and phrases for a holiday or who are already doing Italian classes and require additional material.
