Editor's Verdict: Earworms Rapid Italian is a new and unique product on the market that uses principles of music and rhythm to help you learn vocabulary. With catchy songs, native speaker audio and clear English translations, the CDs will help you commit over 200 Italian words to your long term memory with minimal effort. The 10 sections take you through various situations in which you are likely to find yourself as a tourist in Italy and after a while you should be confident in getting by in Italian. Although the music may not be to everyone's taste (a bit on the cheesy side) we did find the basic concept to work very well. It should take you about 6 - 10 listens to have every word memorized and be confident in pronouncing them correctly. Although this sounds like a long time (i.e. 6 - 10 hours), because of the minimal effort required you find yourself being able to learn in every situation and hence learn a lot quicker. No note taking, repetition or even concentration is really required, although doing so will speed up the learning process. There is also a small handbook with the phonetic spellings of every word as well as few extras. The audio is well produced with clear pronunciations and even a touch of humor. The course will certainly not teach you any grammar and with this product alone you will find yourself completely lost as soon as the conversation drifts beyond the bare-basics tourist Italian. However, the course kindly teaches you how to say 'I'm sorry, I don't speak much Italian'. Although this can be seen as a potential drawback, it is often grammar and sentence structure that put off many people from attempting to learn even the basics of a foreign language. Overall, the technique works (voulez vous coucher avec moi? for example) and it is about time someone incorporated it into language learning. Earworms Rapid Italian will be excellent for those who have, for a long time, struggled with foreign languages, children, families and those wanting to learn on the go. You will learn basic Italian quickly and easily.
